5 Cheap and Unique Decorating Tips

Posted on October 9th, 2015 by

Redecorating your home can be a great way to make it feel new again, and it doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult. Here are some tips to give your rooms a facelift, provided by the flooring experts at Unique Flooring San Diego.

1. Paint Your Floors

Although it’s an unusual decorating choice, painting your floors can be an easy and inexpensive way to give them a new look. Although some types of flooring (such as carpet, obviously) can’t be painted, most types take well to paint. For added interest you can paint your floor with stripes or in a checkerboard pattern.

2. Add Shelving

An easy way to add both storage and décor to your home is to mount shelves on your wall. There are plenty of styles available to suit your taste, and it’s not terribly difficult to install shelves. Almost any kind of room can benefit from extra shelving, since it can be used to store everything from clothing and makeup to books and toys. Homemade shelves made from reclaimed wood can be especially unique.

3. Get Creative with Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard paint can add a fresh twist to the appearance of almost any surface, so don’t be shy about using it. Does your tabletop need a new coat of paint? Making it into a chalkboard can add a bit of fun to your kid’s homework time.

4. Use a Colored Stain on Your Floors

Planning on restaining your hardwood floor? Perhaps you’d like to get creative and use a non-traditional color to add personality to your room. While various shades of brown are the most commonly available wood stains, it’s possible to find blues, greens, pinks, and other unique colors if you so desire.

5. Replace Your Curtains

If your room needs a minor facelift, consider replacing your curtains. You can hang them high to give your room the illusion of being taller or place them further apart so your window lets in more light. Heavier curtains can help with privacy and insulation, while lighter curtains let in more sunlight.

After you’ve completed decorating your living room or your bedroom, maybe the next home project on your list involves new flooring for your kitchen or office. Unique Flooring offers a wide variety of great choices for carpet, tile, vinyl, and hardwood floors in San Diego. Give us a call at 760-945-0010 to learn more and get a free estimate.
