3 Natural Floor Cleaners You Can Make At Home

One of the best ways to keep floors in tip-top shape is to keep up with regular maintenance and use an p/natural cleaner that won’t damage your flooring. Leading San Diego flooring company, Unique Flooring, offers these easy DIY cleaners.

  1. Carpet Cleaner
    1/4 cup salt
    1/4 cup borax
    1/4 cup white vinegar

Carpet cleaning can be a nightmare, but the key is patience. Letting a spot treatment sit in the carpet and work its magic on a stain can really make the biggest difference and cut down on a lot of the elbow grease.

For a heavy duty cleanse, mix equals parts of salt, borax, and vinegar (start with about 1/4 cup each) into a paste and rub it into the carpet spot. Let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum it all away. For a more general, lighter carpet stain remover try equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Don’t forget to let it sit for a few minutes before you start to scrub!
  2. Wood Cleaner
    1 part vegetable oil
    1 part white vinegar

By applying a thin coat of vegetable oil and vinegar, you can make your urban wood floors look like new! Vegetable oil conditions the wood and brings back its beautiful shine, while vinegar does the cleaning. Spray this 1:1 mixture lightly onto the floor and buff with a clean cloth.
  3. Grout Cleaner
    White vinegar
    Baking soda

First, soak a sponge in pure white vinegar. Then, take that sponge and wipe down the entire grout surface. Using a brush (toothbrushes really do work great), immediately scour the grout with baking soda. Vinegar is an excellent cleanser for just about anything in the house and toothbrushes are the perfect size to fit in most grout lines, making them an affordable and very effective tool for cleaning.
