What you want: “Smart” home technologies.
What you can afford: A “smart” utility meter, provided by your local utility company. Check out the $250 Nest thermostat. This smart thermostat creates a temperature schedule based on previous adjustments, recognizes when no one is home and adjusts the temperature to avoid unnecessary heating and cooling, and know how long it takes for your home to heat up or cool down.
