Don’t Let Leftover Flooring Go to Waste

From incorrect flooring installations (something you don’t have to worry about when using our professional flooring contractors) to tiles that chip or crack in transit, it’s always best to have more than you need. When it comes to flooring, we truly believe our customers are better safe than sorry!

This motto is particularly important for new hardwood installation. Although hardwood is a durable material, problems such as water damage may ruin the hardwood’s surface or cause the planks to warp. And because many flooring manufacturers frequently change their product offerings, you want to make sure you have extra planks on hand that match your existing floor. A poor patch job could ruin your beautiful investment.

But what happens if you have an excess amount of hardwood left? Don’t let it go to waste. Here are some creative ideas for repurposing hardwood flooring in San Diego that will not only save your hardwood remnants from the trash, but will accent and highlight the stunning floors you have just installed.

1. Create counter and tabletops
   Extra hardwood flooring can be easily installed on old bar or table tops for a new and updated look. Side tables in the living room will then perfectly match your flooring or you could expand your counter space in the kitchen.
2. Surround a window seat
   If you have a pre-existing built in window seat or bench for an eat-in-kitchen, you can use leftover hardwood planks to surround the bottom and top of the seating area for added aesthetic appeal. The hardwood can also be used as the actual seat for a more cohesive appearance.
3. Install an accent wall
   In other rooms of the home, you can install leftover hardwood planks directly on the wall. This will create a beautiful, one of a kind accent piece. In addition to entire accent walls, hardwood planks can also be used for a fireplace mantel or on the walls surrounding it.

If you don’t have a large amount of hardwood leftover, but would hate for it to go to waste, consider installing it as a closet floor liner or to update a few steps in the garage. No matter how much hardwood you have, there’s always a great way to repurpose it.
